It was Sunday. We were supposed to have a family bonding - hearing a mass and going to a mall. But that day was an exception.
After confirming from Ms. Flor Abid, Agency Manager of Belicario dealership that a group of home owners' association had committed to host a product orientation seminar (POS) for our Forest Lake somewhere in Malagamot, Panacan, I never hesitated considering that this was already the third time the group asked for our presence.
In order not to break spending quality time with my family, I decided to bring along my two sons, Deo and Alken. After a few missed texts and mis-informations that morning, I ended up bringing along my personal car for that day to speed up coming over to Landco.
Fortunately, materials for the POS were made ready. Just in time to save the day and curtailing my growing impatience for not making it to be on time.
It was almost 11:30 AM. We we were trailing the muddy dilapidated road. It was unfortunate it rained the night before making the travel worse. Ms. Abid remarked in her text, "Nabasa naman ta sir, mangaligo na lang gyud ta ani" (We are wet already so we just have to take a bath.) To my mind, we made the decision and we needed to pursue although I had an inkling things would be more challenging ahead.
True enough. The barangay road we trailed was blocked by a cargo truck stuck in the middle of the road making it impossible for us to get through.
The sun was scorchingly hot; the road was all muddy. But we decided to walk an almost one-kilometer trek just to reach the site. We had the problem of bringing the materials to the place but some locals helped.
After almost an hour of walk we hit the place - a small Purok used by nearby residents for their gatherings. Five persons met us with pleasant gestures and smiles. The marketing assistants (Reggie, Von, Ging-Ging) and my sons tagged behind bringing all the materials- all sweat and hungry. But we needed to proceed.
After the Chairman of the association hit the the old rusty torpedo shell hanged behind and using the merienda-roll-call tactics, one by one participants started to appear.
The lecture went well backed by the blend of technology and pasted cartolina on the wall. It was perfect. People were convinced. I felt relieved seeing the participants eating their merienda and filing up the applications forms. I almost forgot we did not take our lunch. I realized there could be some stumbling blocks along the way, but the desire to sell and God's providence turned things right.
The orientation finished with almost 50 sales for that day! Ms. Abid informed me more are coming.
